Darryl M. Hoffman, MD

Darryl M. Hoffman, MD is an attending cardiothoracic surgeon at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Hoffman performs on-pump coronary bypass and beating heart surgery, has particular clinical interest in valvular heart disease, surgical management of arrhythmia and heart failure, and has vast experience in the field of pacemaker and implantable defibrillator placement.

Dr. Hoffman earned his medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa and then completed his residency in general surgery at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland. He then completed fellowships in congenital cardiac and thoracic transplantation at St. Mary's Hospital/Mayo Clinic, cardiothoracic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital and a research fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, focusing on surgical therapy for heart failure and valvular heart disease.

Dr. Hoffman introduced use of the radial artery conduit for coronary artery bypass as well as cardiac resynchronization therapy at Beth Israel. He also started Beth Israel's program for surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation using minimally invasive beating heart radiofrequency ablation in 2004, performing the first such operation in New York City.

Dr. Hoffman is an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
