Gary Roubin, MD, PhD

Gary Roubin, MD, PhD, is the Director and Physician-in-Chief of the Continuum Cardiovascular Centers of New York. Dr. Roubin is a world-renowned interventional cardiologist, perhaps best known for his groundbreaking work in the field of coronary angioplasty and stenting—pioneering and placing the first FDA-approved coronary stent 25 years ago. He also is an international leader in the development of carotid artery stenting techniques and embolic protection devices, and was the coprincipal investigator of the recently concluded NIH/CREST study that found carotid stenting and carotid surgery to be equivalent treatments for carotid artery disease.

Dr. Roubin is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Royal Australian College of Physicians, Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology, Society of Interventional Radiology, International Society of Endovascular Specialists and Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association. He has edited two textbooks on interventional cardiovascular medicine and coronary artery stenting, and contributed to 15 textbooks on interventional cardiology. He also has published more than 250 articles in major peer-reviewed journals and more than 200 abstracts for presentation at international scientific meetings.
